It is important to remember that fluency is more than just speed. It is NOT a race to the finish! Fluent readers use expression in their voice and pay attention to punctuation marks. They read most all of the words in the text accurately and they think about what they are reading. When students become fluent readers, they are usually able to understand what they are reading. Our ultimate goal is for students to be able to talk and write about what they have read!
